Radiobiology Laboratory

The Main scientific mission was to investigated the redox changes in Health and Disease, with a particular focus on radiobiology, and astrobiology.

The main topic of the research of the Laboratory of Radiobiology is a medicine, and therapy of the rate applied to the therapy of radio - and photodynamic cancer, as well as the interaction of the ionizing radiation is relevant to outer space, the normal cells in the context of the astrobiologiei. In the field of radiobiologiei, we are working with the infrastructure of the innovative Extreme Light – Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP, Romania), built by the EU in Romania and the Center for the study of Heavy Ion (GSI) from Germany in order to investigate the response of human cells to radiation therapy, and, respectively, the components of the cosmic radiation of the galactic.

With the approach of systems biology, we propose to link the responses of the cell to the network of molecular pathways that are triggered by the different radiation fields. One of particular interest to our research is the transcription of the cytoprotective nrf2 pathway, which controls the expression of more than 250 genes, stress, antioxidant, and detoxifying. On the one hand, the inhibition of which are of the nrf2 pathway may increase the efficacy of cancer, while, on the other hand, it is expected that enable it to provide protection to the cells against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation at the time of occupational exposure, including the astronauts on their journey into space. In the field of medicine and treatment of the nrf2 pathway, we have an ongoing collaboration with the BenBedPhar.

In addition to the research in radiobiology, we were in the present, the relationship of inflammation, redox – in the case of chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative, with the purpose of identifying the signature of the molecular ion and the signaling rate for the characterization of the networks in pathology are associated, and to the identification of biomarkers that show promise, and therapeutic targets in these diseases.
